I gave Geohot's Towelroot (XDA) a shot and it worked! You may need to install SuperSU (or equivalent) manually.
Also, upon installing Towelroot a warning will pop up saying that the app tries to exploit certain vulnerabilities in Android, or something along those lines. I just took the risk and proceeded to install, as it seems pretty obvious that a root app uses exploits. I also needed to reboot despite Towelroot telling me that was unnecessary.
Everything at your own risk of course.

Probably not, taken from asus news announcement:

07/01/2014

ASUS is pleased to announce the release of a major software update for the ASUS PadFone 2 (A68), to Android 4.4 KitKat. This release also brings ASUS ZenUI 1.1 to PadFone 2 customers. Please note that this update requires manual installation and performs a factory reset (data backup is required prior to installation).

Ok guys few impressions,1st: is it just me or the screen is flickering when scrolling in the browser or through the settings?!
2nd:when in a tablet mode want to use the power pack mode it's taking about an hour to charge only 1%.
3rd: before we had in a tablet mode a button near the home button and back button the wigdet button, we had some nice wigdets like the small calculator that we could move all over the screen and some other very convenient widgets, why did they removed it? And why the hell they put the three buttons in the middle of the screen it was better when it was at the left side.
So generally I don't like what they done with the phone, what you think?

Anyone with WWE SKU has noticed that lock screen widget meteo/clock/alarm looks not removable. If disabled in settings, then it disappears first time screen is locked, then it pop-up again from second lock. Just annoying, but....

APN freeze when he's doing the autofocus.

The battery life is better.

You mean KitKat on PF1? I believe it is a matter of hardware not being able to run it.

hey guys, i just installed kitkat to my pf2 and i'm dissapointed. 1.the screen is flickering all the time, not only when im scrolling but even while just looking on the screen. 2.my wifi is extremely slow and the signal is much weaker than before. 3.i'm using a german version, and i noticed some grammar mistakes.
because of the first two problems this is not acceptable for me at all, the flickering drives me crazy.
is there any possibility to downgrade? i just tried to reinstall android 4.1, but it is not working. (status 7 error)

Maybe you should try factory resetting it...
