I know it's early to think about Padfone 3 but according to Apple Daily in Taiwan, they are developing the Padfone 3 already.
I don't want Asus to make silly mistakes like they did with Padfone 2 by doing away with important features (expansion slots, keyboard dock, removable battery) in their next upgrade. Let's start getting a wishlist together and hope Asus will hear us out and get things together before they push Padfone 3 out the door.
My wishlist for Padfone 3: - Keyboard dock a MUST - Expansion slots (USB, MicroSD, SD card slots) - Improved battery - Smaller bezel on tablet station (look at iPad mini's side bezel or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7) - Same transformer color choices (more than the paltry 2 which Apple will sue you for since you're copying their color scheme), and I actually like the original Padfone 1 color more than these 2 (it stands out from the plethora of smartphones and tablets in the market!) - I prefer a sideways (docking) as with Padfone 1 than the vertical, just looks sleeker but that's my personal opinion - Higher-resolution front camera on phone and station (at least 3MP) - No downgrades to Padfone 2 specs - Oh, and I reiterate, GET BACK THE KEYBOARD DOCK!
PF2 looks way better than PF1 from the unboxing clips but I don't think I'll buy it. my wishlist would be : - Expansion slots - removable battery - higer resolution on station (1080p please) - lower weight, PF2 looks fine but a little bit less weight doesn't hurt - lower price (That would bring more people)
You can take my money on first day if those things happen ;p
- 2 speakers - stylus with BT headset function with good handwriting ability - Android (I think Windows 8 is not good enough yet)
Anyone can imagine the Asus will brings 3 top, high end smartphones in one year? What about costumers, who bought one of them? They will disappointed, when they will know everything about the new one.
My must have's: - Keyboard dock - Expansion slots - Padfone 4,5"(I don't get the need with big phones if you can dock it, same 720p/or 1080p res is essential tough) - At least black color - Higher-resolution for the Station - No downgrades to Padfone 2 specs - A stylus similar to galaxy note(or at least some kind of stylus!) - Android (Ubuntu when docked^^)
Padfone is the closest thing to a dream product for me on the market. But without the specs listed i am hesitant to waste money. If the list is ever implemented, i won't care how much it cost. I am getting it! =) All the things I have listed already exist so it is not impossible. Asus: make it intuitive the next time around!
My wishlist for Padfone 3: - Keyboard dock - Expansion slots (USB, MicroSD, SD card slots) - Improved battery - Higher-resolution front camera on phone and station (at least 3MP) - Higher-resolution for the Station - Support for tablet apps when in tablet mode - No downgrades to Padfone 2 specs
- smaller padfone (4.7" is slightly too big for me) - better padfone station, the back of the padfone station 2 should have some sort of cover for the phone instead of letting it wild open. also, both PF1 & PF2 back is uneven, the padfone station's back should be even so that when lying flat it will be stable enough. - still android base, just more powerful - even further improve on batt life - with micro SD card & SD card slots for PF station - with optional physical keyboard dock & even the monitor dock.
-Keyboard dock (with USB, SD-card slot, and battery) -Next gen specs ( PF2 does have it imo, but it will probably be outdated next year) -Higher resolution for the Station. -A small separate dock for the phone (with USB ports, SD-cardreader and an HDMI output to connect it to any monitor/TV, that will make it the ultimate entertainment/business device)...
I cant get any DMI cable to stay connected to my phone. Whenever I move the phone the cable gets disconnected. I have to cut some of the plastic of the connector to make it fit. Had to do that once before with some other device. And connecting the phone to the tv is annoying. You only use a small part of the tv screen (unless you watch a fullscreen movie) and working on a small phonescreen while you have a big ass screen in front of you is awkward.
"However, at some point later we tried the shake test again and the phone did eventually slip out, and we think it's something to do with the dust or some sort of powder that managed to get onto the rubber pads, so be careful."
- Make the backside flush, so it doesn't wiggle when you lay it on a flat surface
here is my addtional wishlist if padfone III is the next nexus,
1) dynamic display will be a norm and native support by google 2) pure google experience will be "pure" 3) more product line will be coming out from diff brand and maybe even bundle with google glass or google TV?
My idea is a keyboard with a solid extension that insert in the empty station (upside-down), using the male 13-pin interface of the latter, in place of the padfone 2. And the padfone 2 should be docked under the keyboard.
Attached, here is a sketch of this keyboard (in continuous lines), with lid open (padfone 2 and its station are in discontinuous lines), cut along the plane of symmetry:
And the same sketch, lid closed:
Even another maker may do that, if ASUS do not want to make it, except that the keyboard would be bluetooth and with only copper to wire the 13 pins from the padfone to its station.
Optionnaly, a part of the screen of the padfone 2 could become the touchpad of the keyboard.
