Hi, in the last week my padfone 2 was very slow, so I thought it might need a reset. After that, I installed everything back: no alternative roms, no root, no apks. All from amazon and google play. After two days it seemed to work perfectly. Today I used it both alone and in the padstation. In the evening whatsup was incredible slow, the keyboard didn't show. So I thought it was better to restart it. The first restart the Asus logo kept displaying and nothing happened. I forced a turn off and the second attempt after the Asus logo the screen was totally black even if lighted and touch buttons go lighted if touched.
In the last attempt phone doesn't turn on anymore. Totally dead.
Now it's connected to its charger but I fear it's broken. I really didn't nothing strange to break it: no water, no sweat, no heat, no froze, no accidental falls, really nothing.
I'm really desperate because it's a very expensive phone and I don't know how long Asus will keep it to repair it.
Do you think I can do something?
I obviously tried to turn it on while pressing the volume buttons, but nothing happened.
Regards. And Thanks in advance.

Causion: Following these steps will result in the loss of ALL your data. But it's a great way to solve several types of issues.

1. Undock the Padfone.
2. Power off the Padfone.
3. Hold down the volume down button, keep holding it, and press the power button. Now you will enter the first menu.
4. Press the power button to enter "download mode".
5. Selec the option to "wipe data/factory reset" usiing the volume keys to scroll up and down.
6. Wait for the process to complete.
7. Now select the reboot option.

Please take note that booting the phone for the first time after a reset/wipe may take longer than usual...

I have a very similar problem. Just got the Asus padfone 2 from Taiwan (I live in the USA). Had it for about 2 days, kept it in protective case, did nothing to it, kept away from water, heat, everything. I installed some basic apps on it last night, top ranked android apps, and plugged it into the ASUS wall charger it came with. It was at 20% battery. I went to sleep. Woke up and the phone wouldn't turn on. Wouldn't react at all to any buttons. I did the volume down +power button but it didn't work at all. Charged it for another hour, still nothing.

I talked to asus support but they said they can't help since this model isn't sold in USA. I can't read chinese to use the Taiwan support page, please help if you can!

Message was editted at 08:14PM:

Also, I've tried charging it from different chargers, so it's not the charger that's broken. I used car charger, plugged it into computer, plugged into micro USB charger, everything. still no reaction.

Not switching on can be attributable to either a hardware failure (in which case the only solution is to send it back for repair or replacement), or software failure, which can almost always be remedied.
  1. Leave the 'phone unplugged for at least an hour.
  2. Hold the power button down for 10-20 seconds; this will force a shutdown if there's a software glitch keeping the 'phone on while making it look like it's off. If there's no response (display or vibration), repeat the process up to 3 times.
  3. Attempt to switch the 'phone on in Recovery mode - hold the VOL-DOWN button and while continuing to hold it down, press the POWER button for 5 seconds.
If the above process manages to wake your 'phone up, plug it in to charge (directly into the charger, not via the PadStation) and whilst plugged in perform a factory wipe.

If the 'phone still won't power up after the above steps, try leaving it unplugged for 24-36 hours and repeat the process - if there's still no joy then it's a hardware issue and should be addressed appropriately through your place of purchase (i.e., if you purchased it online, contact the seller to arrange for repair or replacement).

In most situations like this, it's important to remember that although the power switch is primarily a software-controlled button, it does have an overriding hardware element which will forcibly shut the device down if you hold the button in for long enough.

Just my luck! My padrone developed the same symptom this afternoon and died! Wonder if this has to do be with certain batch. Read some forum in Singapore and few users also complained the same. Lucky for them there is an ASUS service center. I live in Saudi and bought the phone when I was back in Malaysia so if the phone does not suddenly resurrected itself in the next 36 hours have no choice but to to ship it back to ASUS Malaysia for service. Such a high hope for expensive handphone...now have to find a cheap android phone so i can still get connected to whatsapp and my contact.

I believe this is a common problem with padfone 2. Tomorrow will call Asus Malaysia and find out what to do. Until now the phone refused to boot up. Tried all the methods..

Anyone who had experience this problem and tried all the proposed solution and worked let me know.

It has happened several times to me, I simply hold down the - volume button, and the start button at the same time, and it works! However only pressing the start button doesn't do anything while in this "state", so it's really very weird.

The worse thing is all these tricks above dosen't work.

I was thinking hard reset lose all the important photo, so I just need to fly two hours and take the pictures again...

WTF

Have to go through all these trouble just for the bloody phone.

looks like none of the button have any response.
I am pretty sure I charged for another 3 hours just now.

if it doesn't work ... I will just buy a new phone and will never buy any ASUS ever.

Wallqueen.. 2 suggestions.
1) Try to charge it, then hold in the power button for like 10-20 seconds. It worked for me when i was in a similar situation.
2) Your webstorage offers instant upload of the photos you take. Its awesome, everytime you take a picture, you can acces it from your webstorage anywhere in the world (And never be able to lose it). Remember you have 50gb free storage when purchasing the phone.

Edit Wallqueen: Don't give up yet, despite your frustration. The Padfone can indeed (I have experienced it once) turn tricks on you like the one you mention. Suddently, it will boot up. Try to charge it a bit (if it has charged a couple of hours) then try to hold down the powerbutton for a long time. Release it and try again.

I tried pressing it for like one minute and nothing came up! In addition before that I plugged it for more than 2 hours. Anyway spoke to Asus Malaysia who asked me to send the phone back and since it is covered under Global Warranty I can send it to Asus Saudi where I am based now. Have contacted Asus Saudi and waiting for the courier to pick it up. So for those who bought the phone and have this problem call your local Asus service center and explain your problem and see whether you can send this to them. You should because the padfone 2 is new and covered under Global Warranty. Even with Saudi I had to argue a bit since the phone is not sold here but the call center then said I can send it to them. Beside padfone 2 is sold in UAE and my guess is they will confer with UAE what to do may even send my phone there for repair. So far I can say their technician is very helpful to me. This is also the impression I got from my colleagues. My CFO bought the Asus Nexus 7 table from Australia and it failed too so he sent it to Asus Saudi for repair though the table was not launched yet here.

Do a cache partition wipe. It should resolve most crashing issue without data loss.

I have a similar problem.Today I turned on Cam Scanner App. but it didn't work.. there was just a white screen... so I forced shut down the application and placed my padfone2 into my pocket. I tried to switch on my cell an hour later but there was just a black screen and the phone was very hot. I tried to switch it on ... it got cooler but still didn't work. I came home and followed the steps mentioned home... such as pressing the volume down key and power on button together for 5 or 10 seconds.... I charged it for 20 minutes and tried to turn it on again... with the same combination... but nothing came back... I'm really frustrated now..pls help... I hope waiting for 35 hours...works
