Hy, I'm tracking this 'padFohe story' since asus announced padFone 1. And already for about a year I'm thinking that to have 3 different devices(tablet, phone, desktop) and messing all the time with synchronizing them, charging, transferring data from one to another etc just makes me seek sometimes. So now I'm about to buy NPFI,and has been researching for last couple day all info about this device(to figure out if it will be possible to use for all my needs), and I found almost everything except one issue: is it possible ti connect NPFI to external HD monitor while phone docked? If it is possible, will it stay in tablet mode(I suppose it will, but want to be shure)? Do I understanding right that on the dock station present not only mini-hdmi but also mini-usb so I'll be able to connect to this one external hdd at the same time when external monitor is connected? Sorry for lot of text, but I really could not find answers to this questions anywhere else.
Yes this is an option, but for Miracast needed special monitor, I was more thinking about wier connection, is it possible to connect whole tablet to monitor using myDP? or somthing like that: MHL mini USB to HDMI Media Cable for Samsung Galaxy S3 and Samsung Note2 2 Meter
I use one very similar to that. And it works fine I can output to my PC monitor
But surely not using the NPFI dock at the same time. Afaik neither miracast nor myDP (which is the successor of mhl) will work when the npfi is docked and the reason is quite simple, the phone only supports one external screen at a time and the Docking Station already is this external display.
I tried my myDP adapter on connected to the station and it was not recognized and I also tried miracast while docked and am not able to activate is as another secondary display is already connected...
I am not sure if anything else than charging through the microusb of the dock worked (I think usb otg network did not wirk using the dock).
Yeah no go with tablet mode unfortunately. No big loss there tho
I beg your pardon, but no big loss? It means that you have to make a large compromise: - no large primary display for presentations. If you want to connect to an external monitor (via hdmi or miracast) you can't be docked and thus are using the 5 inch display only - no enhanced battery capacity - no large keyboard, you have to type on this tiny onscreen keyboard
But hey, as long as android is not capable of adapting it's ui to larger screens the hdmi out is only useful for media content as large portions of the monitor/tv are covered with a ridiculously large status bar, icons and text.
My HDMI slimport arrived tested on Toshiba LCD tv with failure results, first 2 minutes work fine after awhile it coming flickering screen and then it goes black screen no display no sound but PadFone it still playing the movie
